A Life That Made a Difference: Eric Honored by The Shelter, Inc.
Eric's Involvement with The Shelter Eric first became involved with the Shelter in 2019 and continued pouring his time and resources into supporting the organization in anyway that he could until his passing in August 2025. Eric was on the Board of Directors and volunteered at various fundraising events including car washes, golf tournaments, and the annual Partnership Dinner. The Art of Planing Pine
At our Planer Mill, we take rough-sawn Southern Yellow Pine 8x8 heavy timbers and transform them into smooth, finished timbers planed on all four sides. The process starts by loading the rough 8x8s onto the package deck, which feeds them down to our planer operator. From there, each timber is guided onto the end-feed table, where it’s pulled steadily through the planer to create a clean, smooth surface. Wood Preservation 101: The Chemicals We Use
Behind every long-lasting post, beam, and board is a carefully controlled preservation process designed to protect wood from the elements.
Our treatment process begins by placing Southern Yellow Pine lumber into sealed, airtight cylinders. These cylinders are then filled with pressurized water and a precisely measured preservative solution. Under pressure, the treatment penetrates deep into the wood fibers, creating long-term protection against decay and insects.
